The winner of Miss Universe 2008 was Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela. She was crowned by the outgoing titleholder, Riyo Mori of Japan. Dayana Mendoza's victory marked the second consecutive win for Venezuela in the Miss Universe pageant, following Dayana's predecessor, Dayana Mendoza.
The first runner-up was Taliana Vargas from Colombia, and the second runner-up was Marianne Cruz from the Dominican Republic. The top 5 also included Miss Russia and Miss Mexico.
